Internationally recognized civil engineer, educationist, researcher, administrator and country’s eminent professor Dr. Jamilur Reza Choudhury breathed his last today after suffering from a cardiac arrest. (Innalillahi Wa Inna Ilahi Raziwun).
Dr. Jamilur died of heart attack in his Dhanmondi residence at the age of 77 at late night on April 28, 2020.
He was rushed to the capital’s Square hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Professor’s death news spread through the social site and confirmed by his son in law Zia Wadud through facebook post.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and President Abdul Hamid expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of the national professor.
In a condolence message, the head of the state prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family, reports BSS.
Dr. JR Chowdhury is also recognized as National Professor and the most famous personality in engineering community of Bangladesh who plays a cardinal role in development of the infrastructure system of Bangladesh. He was also the Vice Chancellor at University of Asia Pacific (Bangladesh).
Note that under his intellectual leadership, University of Asia Pacific is now regarded as one of the most respected universities in Bangladesh. He was the Technical Adviser of Padma bridge. He was the president of Bangladesh Mathematical Olympiad Committee too.
Besides getting many more awards in his lifetime including Ekushey Padak in 2017, he was also awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Engineering (Honoris Causa) by Manchester University on October 20, 2010 as the first person of Bangladeshi origin to receive this honor from a British University.
He joined Buet as a lecturer in 1963 and was appointed a professor in 1976
He left behind wife Mrs. Selina Choudhury, daughter Charisma Farheen Choudhury and son Kaashif Reza Choudhury.
